Delve’s Madison office seeks an experienced Design Strategist to join our team!

For more than 50 years, Delve (formerly Design Concepts) has delivered innovative physical and digital product and service design solutions to our clients through strategy, insights, design, engineering, and prototyping. Our portfolio includes award-winning work for companies recognized worldwide as leaders in a broad range of industries including medical device, consumer and commercial products, transportation and more.

Design Strategy is a critical part of the design process. A Senior Design Strategist is primarily responsible for framing innovation opportunities, architecting a plan to get there, and helping both clients and cross-functional team members navigate the design and innovation process. Design Strategists are masters at integrating insight and inspiration from multiple sources and crafting innovation plans that are not just inspirational and desirable, but also feasible and viable.

As a Senior Design Strategist, you will lead the following:

  • Defining the strategic opportunities for our clients’ businesses, offerings, and brands
  • Developing roadmaps of future products, services and experiences
  • Recommending evocative, grounded and actionable strategies and recommendations
  • Facilitating decision-making grounded in meaningful business metrics and systems thinking that drive toward actionable next steps
  • Designing and leading primary (qual and quant) and secondary research activities to understand user, influencer and decision maker needs
  • Synthesis and sense-making with internal and client teams
  • Building compelling experiences and stories at milestone meetings that immerse both client and internal teams in the insights, opportunities and recommendations
  • Documenting the story of the project in a way that is engaging and actionable for both the client audience, and potential future design and engineering audiences
  • Laying the groundwork for successful brainstorming and ideation sessions with multi-disciplinary teams, clients, and/or users
  • Traveling (domestically and internationally) as needed to serve clients
  • Collaborating with clients as well as other members of strategy team as well as designers, engineers, and prototyping specialists to support idea generation, brainstorming, and concept development
  • Delivering exceptional client experiences as measured by client feedback and long-term relationships
  • Managing large scale client relationships and programs

Other responsibilities:

  • Effectively leading cross-disciplinary project teams and ensuring quality of deliverables while adhering to client’s budgets and schedule
  • Keeping up to date on the latest trends and news in science, technology, design, and the industries and clients we support
  • Sharing knowledge and insights with the Strategy team and broader organization
  • Supporting proposal writing/responding to RFPs
  • Other projects and support as needed

You are:

  • An expert practitioner of Design Thinking and Human-Centered Design methods and how they apply to new product/service/experience development
  • Excited about the “fuzzy front end”
  • An excellent written, visual, and oral communicator, facilitator, and storyteller
  • Able to work collaboratively in an environment with a high degree of ambiguity and independence
  • A conscientious, hard-working self-starter who takes initiative
  • Able to manage and adapt to changing priorities and situations
  • Passionate about the details
  • Curious about and inspired by the world around you
  • Experienced managing projects, people, and resources
  • Able to travel regionally, nationally, and internationally (sometimes for up to two weeks at a time)

You have:

  • 5+ years of professional (ideally, consulting) experience in design strategy, design research, industrial/UX/CX/service design or other relevant fields
  • Bachelors or Masters in design, anthropology, sociology, psychology, architecture, marketing or other similar fields
  • High proficiency in Adobe suite software (InDesign, Illustrator), including video production
  • High proficiency in Microsoft suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Intermediate/high proficiency with qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Project management experience
