Software Engineer

Justin Chan

I graduated from Purdue University in May 2019 with a bachelor’s in computer engineering and a minor in management. I started working for Epic as a software developer shortly after graduation and worked there up until November 2020, so about a year and a half.

I write code for Jon’s Electrical Engineering team now as a software developer.

I love automating tasks to make things more efficient. If a person can do it, then I like to see how a machine might be able to do it too. And getting to accomplish a task by writing brand new software for it and having it work is a rush unlike anything else.

I enjoy playing games, both board and video, snowboarding, volleyball, and playing piano!

First memory of design thinking
I remember I was walking around with my dad in Home Depot, and he was shopping for tools or something like that. This was when I was probably around 7 or 8. I remember seeing the giant paint stick that’s like four feet long and thinking, “Wow, that’d be a really cool sword. The bottom is even already kind of hand-shaped!” And then I saw the small (or I guess regular size) paint sticks and just visualized putting them onto the big one as the hand guard. And the best part, it was free!! Wish I could say that I did everything to put them together, but my dad didn’t let me use the saw (probably the right call). But I wrapped the handle in electrical tape and painted it! I still have that sword in my closet to this day!
