Vetting my next startup, planning my next tattoo, attending to my latest sports injury.
Adapting my last startup, attending to midcentury obsession, learning how to ride a motorcycle.
Discovering, studying, and dissecting social norms. Human behavior is fascinating.
Soccer. As I age and players always seem younger and faster, it never gets old outsmarting better athletes with smart play.
What is your first memory of design thinking?
My dad is a professor of consumer behavior who often used me as a research subject (non-remunerated). At dinner, throwing the football, in the yard, he’d pepper me with questions about my perceptions, associations, and experiences with consumer products. Why is that? Tell me more. Help me understand. What would make that experience better? I didn’t know it at the time, but I was learning how to be curious, reflective, critical, and insightful. And now I get to apply those traits at work every day. And with any luck I can help my own kids uncover the joy in discovering how to make things better.
