Engineering Summer School students build a better bun

On Friday, June 27, Design Concepts hosted approximately 25 high school students who are attending the University of Wisconsin’s Engineering Summer Program (ESP). While at Design Concepts the students were introduced to our product development process, given a tour of our model shop, and participated in a panel discussion with various members of our creative staff.

The juniors and seniors were also challenged with a fun brainstorming exercise – “how to redesign the hot dog bun.” Inventive solutions from the students included the “bread roll out” – think paper towel for bread - break off as much as you need to create your sandwich, and the “bread cup” - stick a hotdog inside, fill with condiments and go.. just be sure to start eating from the top!

The ESP is a six-week program designed for students entering junior or senior years of high school, and includes college level curriculum in math, physics, chemistry, engineering, and technical communications.
