Kopenski delivers Pecha Kucha at EPIC conference

Director of Business Strategy Marlisa Kopenski was one of a handful of people to present a Pecha Kucha at EPIC2014 in New York. EPIC is an international conference on the practice of ethnography in the business world. Marlisa will give her presentation, entitled "How Being Rather Than Doing Can Create Value in the Business World," on Thursday, Sept. 11.

"The presentation offers the bold proposal that business forget about filling all available time and space with action and allowing, even encouraging, time for employees to BE," Marlisa said. "Like artists who embrace white space in their work, people who take time to ruminate, to pause, will make fewer brush strokes. And those they do make they do make are that much more articulate and powerful. Learn how to be brave and find those small moments of white space in your business life."

Pecha Kucha is a presentation style in which 20 slides are shown for 20 seconds each (6 minutes and 40 seconds in total). The format keeps presentations concise and fast-paced. The format was devised in 2003 by Astrid Klein and Mark Dytham of Tokyo's Klein-Dytham Architecture as a way to allow young designers to meet, show their work, and exchange ideas. The format is now used by many disciplines and is the basis of Pecha Kucha events in many major cities.
